Art from the Streets

Well I don’t know about you guys but I (like to think I ) am quite the connoisseur of Street Art (and by that I’m simply referring to my humble collection of glossy ‘art’ books, photos, doodles and magazine cut-outs that I have acquired over the years).

For some reason I have always been intrigued by the concept of Street Art - it’s temporal nature, how it blurs the boundaries between art and vandalism, it’s transformative power and how it has the ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, the way it completely challenges our perception of beauty and undermines our ‘traditional’ understanding of talent and artistic skill and how it allows the average citizen to interact with the city landscape by giving them a voice which in turn sparks conversation and sometimes (if done well) controversy within the greater community…..I could go on and on! There is just so much potential inherent in the simple act of employing the city landscape as one’s canvas…the options are infinite.

So it is with my love of Street Art in mind that I wish to inform you of Outpost Project, an exciting and innovative celebration of street artpresented by Sydney Harbour Federation Trust held at the gorgeous backdrop of Cockatoo Island. Labelled “the largest street art festival in the Southern Hemisphere”, it features work from 150 artists including one of my favourite artists - Shannon Crees and the very talented Ben Frost.

Outpost Project has been running since 4th November and will last until 11th December.

ps. Stay tuned for my own collection of Street Art photos taken during my recent European adventure, especially the incredible eclectic city of Berlin - a haven of street art and a city I fell in love with!!
